Hank is a voice companion for the long quiet hours at home: orientation, reminders, conversation, and simple practical help, with a warm and unhurried temperament.
It's a device for the home, built around one rule: the person it keeps company with stays in charge.

Private by default, connected when useful.
Companionship doesn't need the internet, and the home's ambient audio is never silently uploaded. Ħank runs voice activity detection, wake handling, and local SLM inference directly on edge silicon. It connects outbound only when it genuinely helps — local weather, Gozo ferry transit, family updates — and explicitly announces network calls.

Asks before it acts.
Hank learns routines and picks up on context, but it asks before acting on either. It speaks up when useful and is quiet otherwise. Its manner is warm, present, unhurried — and grounded. It doesn't flatter.

Surfaces signal. Doesn't diagnose.
Speech changes before anyone notices it has. Day to day it's invisible, because each day sounds like the last — but over months the pauses, the phrasing, and the effort in a voice all carry information. Something present in the house every day holds a baseline that no appointment can.
So Ħank's acoustic pipeline tracks longitudinal speech biomarkers over time — monitoring phrase latency, prosody shifts, and vocal fatigue against a personalized baseline. It doesn't diagnose or interpret symptoms; it simply surfaces objective signal for clinicians and families.

Under the bespoke acoustic dome sits real industrial engineering: an XMOS XVF3800 voice front-end driving 4-microphone beamforming and far-field acoustic echo cancellation, coupled to low-latency edge neural compute and a PCM5102A high-resolution audio DAC. All of it serves one goal — sub-second, natural conversation in authentic Maltese and English without leaving the living room, quick and warm enough to feel like company. It is named after a very good dog.
